Forestry Commission comes up trumps with new bespoke playspace.
Situated on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park, a brand new adventure playground is being built. The theme of the new Dalby Forest play area will be 'Life in the Forest', and will be explored through stories about Grandfather Oak and a range of tree characters who will interpret forestry, as well as the uses of trees.
Community involvement has been a core part of the development, since the initial tender process back in the autumn of 2013. Both primary and secondary schools are being involved, along with community groups to discuss matters such as planting, installation and any future maintenance works.
The £110,000 project has been funded by Yorventure Challenge Fund 2013 and eibe have designed a bespoke centre piece in keeping with the “Grandfather Oak and Curious Forest” theme.
The ‘Grandfather Oak’ face is currently being carved and will be fitted in time for the grand opening. Crammed with lots of natural play offering and sympathetic landscaping, Dalby will be extremely busy this summer. Already one of the county’s leading tourist attractions, the new playspace will sit perfectly alongside the existing Go Ape and other outdoor recreation facilities, when it fully opens in May 2014.
