Today (December 12) saw the opening of the Walnut Road Play Area, the first of a series of five new recreational spaces in and around Waltham Forest.
The £180,000 scheme will help invigorate the East London region and offer local children a whole host of play equipment on which to have fun and integrate with friends.
Walnut Road is a small Under 7s playspace within a housing association and came about as the result of a leaflet drop through neighbourhood letterboxes. Feedback was negative regarding the existing area, which was run down, uninviting and offered little in the way of play value.
eibe has helped with the rejuvenation at Walnut Road, installing an exciting climbing frame, along with flat swings and a new see-saw. Bespoke railings will be put in to overcome the hazardous blind spot that the current brick wall posed.
Councillor Robbins was present today to cut the obligatory ribbon, while local children came and played with the new products and were given toffee apples, balloons and pens. And even though the play area is aimed at under 7’s, there is more than enough to entertain older siblings as well. Indeed, Marcus Wild aged 8, who lives on the estate declared,
“This is so much better than before, I used to have to stand in the toddler swings and the old climbing frame was just so boring. I prefer it much more now!”
